License
Last updated 12 October 2026
Ruffle3D is free and open source software. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or (at your option) any later version (GPL-3.0-or-later). This covers the software in every form: the desktop app, the portable packages and the browser version.

What the licence lets you do
- Use it for any purpose, including commercial work, on as many computers as you like. There's nothing to pay or activate.
- Study and change it. The complete source code is on GitHub.
- Share it, with or without your changes, free or for a fee.
What it asks in return
- If you distribute Ruffle3D or a modified version, you must make the source code available under the same licence and keep the copyright and licence notices.
- You can't add restrictions that take away these freedoms from the people you give it to.
Using Ruffle3D, including inside a company, isn't distributing it, so none of this applies to ordinary use. It applies when you give copies to others.
Your designs
The licence covers the software, not what you make with it. You own your designs, drawings, renders and exported files, and you can use and license them however you like.
Third-party components
Ruffle3D includes open-source components under their own licences, listed in the open-source notices. In particular, the OpenCascade geometry kernel is used under the GNU Lesser General Public License 2.1. It ships as a separate, replaceable file.
No warranty
As the licence says, Ruffle3D comes with no warranty, to the extent permitted by law. Check designs that matter, especially for engineering, safety or regulatory requirements, by your own calculations and testing.
Contributing
Contributions are welcome and are licensed under the same GPL-3.0-or-later. See the contributing guide.
