About Ruffle3D
Professional CAD has become a subscription that costs as much as a used car over a few years. We think designers deserve a capable tool that costs nothing and keeps their work on their own computer. So Ruffle3D is free, for everyone.
What we're building
Ruffle3D is a CAD application for product design. It brings parametric solid modelling and free-form NURBS surfacing together, which usually means buying two products. Renders and engineering drawings are part of the same app. It's meant for industrial designers, mechanical engineers, makers and small studios: people who design physical things and need precise geometry they can manufacture.
How it's built
Ruffle3D's geometry comes from OpenCascade, an industrial boundary-representation kernel that has been developed for more than thirty years. We run it as WebAssembly in a background thread, so the interface stays responsive while the model rebuilds. On top of it we wrote our own sketch constraint solver, region detection, parametric rebuild engine, NURBS editing and surface evaluation tools. Rendering uses three.js. The full list of open-source components and their licences is on the open-source notices page.
What we believe
Your designs are yours
Ruffle3D runs on your computer. There is no account to create and no cloud storage of your projects. Your designs don't pass through our servers. Read the privacy policy for the details.
Free and open source
Ruffle3D is free for personal, educational and commercial use, and its source code is open under the GNU GPL v3. There's no paid tier, so nothing is held back, and anyone can study it, improve it and share it. The code is on GitHub, and contributions are welcome.
Open file formats
You can always get your work out. STEP, STL, 3MF, GLB and OBJ export are included for everyone, and project files are plain JSON.
Honest about limits
Ruffle3D doesn't do everything yet. We publish what's missing in the release notes so you can decide whether it fits your work.
Company
Ruffle3D is developed by Ruffle3D and its contributors. You can reach us in GitHub Discussions. Press and partnership enquiries are welcome, and the press kit has logos and product images.
