Modelling
- History-based parametric solid modelling on the OpenCascade kernel, with a cached rebuild engine
- Sketches with a geometric constraint solver, 13 constraint types, driving dimensions and expressions
- Extrude, revolve, sweep, loft, hole, shell, draft, press-pull, split, fillet, chamfer, rectangular, circular and path patterns, mirror, move and scale
- Modelled ISO metric threads (M2 to M30), tapped holes and coil springs
- Configurations: named design variants with a parameter table, CSV import and export, and STEP export of every variant
- Mass properties with moments of inertia and principal axes, and an undo history you can step back through
- Sheet metal: base plates, flanges up or down at any angle, flanges on flanges, and flat patterns with a bend table and DXF export
- Raised and engraved text with a built-in engraving font and custom TTF / OTF fonts
- Canvas reference images, construction planes and user parameters
Surfacing
- Surface workspace: extrude, revolve, skin, rail, boundary patch and offset surfaces
- CV curves and CV surfaces with direct control-vertex editing; rebuild any face as exact or refitted NURBS
- Surface fillets with constant, variable and chord-length sizing; trim along the curve plane, an axis or the view; stitch and thicken
- Curvature maps, curvature combs, zebra, isophote and draft analysis
Everything else
- Assemblies: components from other projects, mate, flush, concentric, distance, angle, contact, gear and rack-and-pinion mates solved together, distance and angle limits, collision checking, degrees of freedom, conflict reporting and dragging parts
- Joints with motion preview, interference checking, exploded views and a bill of materials with quantities
- Manufacture: 2.5 and 3-axis CNC with facing, profiles with holding tabs, engraving, pockets, peck drilling, 3D roughing and ball-end parallel finishing, a tool library, toolpath simulation, cycle times and G-code
- 3D print check: overhang colouring, build-volume fit, watertight check and filament estimate
- Materials, appearances, per-face paint, decals, the Render workspace and image capture up to 4K
- Simulation: static stress (von Mises, displacement, safety factor), natural frequencies with animated mode shapes, steady-state and transient thermal, linear buckling, material yielding (plasticity), bearing and gravity loads, and generative design by topology optimisation, with HTML reports
- Engineering drawings with hidden lines, section views, hole callouts and a hole table, placed dimensions with tolerances, notes, GD&T frames and datums, a parts list with quantities and item balloons, detail views, DXF export of the sheet, and a title block. Placed dimensions follow the model when it changes
- Wall thickness analysis with a minimum-wall check
- STEP, STL and DXF import; STEP, STL, 3MF, DXF, GLB, OBJ, PNG, SVG and PDF export
- Turntable video export (WebM) at 1080p, 720p, square and vertical sizes
- Version compare: material added and removed since a saved version, with volume changes
- Backups of all projects and versions, restore from backup, and an optional project folder that every save writes to
- Stable references: features re-find faces and edges by geometric fingerprint after edits, including faces and edges that were split
- Project dashboard, autosave, named versions, dark and light themes, and command search
- Desktop app for Windows (installer with Start menu and desktop shortcuts), a loading screen, native menus, update notices,
.ruffle3dfiles that open with a double-click, and drag-and-drop of projects, STEP and STL - Separate offline download packages for Windows, macOS and Linux; installable from Chrome and Edge
Known limitations
- Rebuilding a cylinder, cone or torus face as a CV surface uses a dense fit rather than an exact conversion; the deviation is reported
- Assemblies have no cam mates, and moving a part does not simulate dynamics
- Simulation has no contact between parts, large-deflection geometry or radiation, and CAM is 3-axis from the top only (no 4th or 5th axis)
